Skyped Up

I finally got a Skype account set up. Seriously, it was crazy easy to get going on both a Mac and a PC (I hooked up Kristi's computer as well), so you have no excuses for not getting an account.

Once you have everything set up, add me as a contact...my username is jomdahl, or just type in Jomdahl. C'mon, free calls and video chat? No brainer.

So what are you waiting for? Get Skype!

BBC Video Player Goes to 11

Today I noticed something funny about the BBC Video player. I'm not sure who created the player, but it looks like whoever created it was a Spinal Tap fan. Here's a shot of the player (check the bottom right of the screenshot):

BBC Player Goes to Eleven

And for those of you who are unfamiliar with the significance of 11, I give you this clip from the movie Spinal Tap...

Jeff Bezos on Innovation...Better Listen

Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, knows a thing or two about innovation. Maybe a thing or three.

With Jeff pushing to open up Amazon's computing "cloud" to anyone who is willing to pay a little money for it, he has not only created an innovative product, but enabled anyone with an innovative idea the computing power to make they idea a reality.

In BusinessWeek's most recent innovation issues, Jeff is interviewed about innovation and how it manifests itself at Amazon.

Read the article here, and think of what Amazon's approach to innovation could do for you and your business.

Story of the Cougar Ace

Cougar Ace

So imagine you are the head of a car company and a cargo ship carrying 4,703 of your brand new vehicles tips over at sea. The cars are all strapped down, so there is little damage, but you're not so sure what the effects of having your cars sitting at a 60-degree angle will be. You could very well put the $100 million worth of vehicles on the road and hope for the best, or you could write them off, taking a huge loss in the process.

What would you do?

To hear what Mazda decided to do, check out the story of the Cougar Ace from the Wall Street Journal...pretty amazing story.

Long Time No Blog

Well heck. It's been a long time, hasn't it?

The reason for my absence from Marketing Punk has not been for a lack of things to post...just the total lack of time/ability to post.

Let me explain.

In the past three weeks I have:

  • Traveled to Barcelona, Spain for a job interview
  • Received an offer for the job
  • Moved from our place Uptown to a new place in Cheesman Park
  • Accepted the offer for the job
  • Given my two weeks notice at the job I've been at for 5 years

Quite eventful, eh?

Now I am:

  • Getting settled into the new place in Cheesman Park with Kristi
  • Wrapping up things at my old job
  • Getting ready to go to Barcelona for a month for work - I'll be coming back after the month and working from home. Looks like I'll be traveling to Spain about 6 times a year.

This weekend was truly the first time I've had a full nights sleep in about a month...hopefully that will be the norm going forward.

Needless to say this is an exciting time for both Kristi and I. I'm sure there will be many more fun posts coming at more regular intervals. But for now, a photo from Spain...

Oh yeah. And in case you are wondering, that's Kristi and my little yellow car in the background.

Shel Goes to Venice Beach

Alright, so the Loren Feldman - Shel Israel spat might be a little out of hand, but you've got to admit, Loren is making some entertaining videos. This one really cracked me up.
